Problem
Once the program is installed, an application shortcut will appear on your desktop. To start the program, simply insert the Classroom Companion ? CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive and double click the program shortcut on your desktop. You can also start the program by accessing your CD-ROM and clicking the program icon.

Using the CD

Once the program is installed, an application shortcut will appear on your desktop. To start the program, simply insert the Classroom Companion ? CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive and double click the program shortcut on your desktop. You can also start the program by accessing your CD-ROM and clicking the program icon.

You will be prompted to register the Classroom Companion ? CD-ROM the first time you load the program. The information entered during the application registration is used for both online testing and the grade book. This information must be entered before you can start using the program.Please be sure to enter all of the information correctly.

You will only have to install the CD one time.You are required to enter the following information when installing your CD: Your name (first and last)your student ID number, your class section number, your email address and your CD serial number. Your CD Serial Number is obtained through the registration of your product, refer to your "important information" card provided with the package.

Start Up Options

After the software loads,you will see the application menu.The contents of the menu and a description of selection are as follows:

  • Read Current Messages: This is a feature that allows the professor to send messages to all of the students in the class. If you choose this menu item while you are connected to the internet, the program will download these messages from the professor and display them. Links to Online Exercise codes and online grades are posted here.

  • View a Presentation: This menu selection opens any lecture slides, audio/video segments, animation, or interactive graphics selected by your professor to teach the fundamental principles of your specific course.

  • View Reference Material: This menu selection opens the Library section, which contains reference material used by the professor to illustrate important concepts of your class. Possible reference material includes indexes, selected readings, module details, lecture outlines, seminar themes, study units on various topics, contacts to your university areas, bibliographic information, links to internet resources, etc.

  • Practice Assessment: This menu selection opens the Assessment section, designed to test your knowledge of the class material. Assessment items include practice test banks interactive activities and access to online exercises.

Window Options

Also visible on the screen are the standard window elements including FILE and HELP pull down menus, located in the top left corner of the application window and the Minimize, Window Shade and Quit icons, located in the top right corner of the application window.

The FILE MENU contains the following options

  • Open: opens all closed windows

  • Save: saves any work completed while using the application

  • Print: print selected material from the CD-ROM (note -not all items can be printed)

  • Send/Download: electronically send selected work to your professor or receive material from your professor.

  • Eject: eject the current Classroom Companion ?CD-ROM from the CD-ROM drive

  • Quit: closes the program

The HELP MENU contains the following options

  • Tutorial: provides links and information explaining the interface and disk features

  • Troubleshooting: answers commonly asked questions students have about the disk

Located in the top left corner of the application window

  • Minimize -returns the student to the computer desktop by minimizing the program.You will not be able to see the program,but the application will continue to run.
  • Window Shade -partially hides the application,allowing the student to view the desktop and part of the application at the same time.
  • Quit -closes the program completely.
